Bert Liebold studied architecture at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, but every free minute he played drums to became a famous jazz drummer. In vain. At the same time, within a wild period of metal drumming, different cover bands, drum circle facilitation and some pop experiments he started extended sound exploration. Together with Ulf Pleines he finally founded noise canteen. Liebold about his work and ‘live sound building’:
“I use a variable technical setup. Mostly I start with a single sound or sequence. After a view moments I am totally involved. The coincidence of musical purposes, multiple mixed sound structures, human interaction, influences of space and architecture produces each time a very unique, open-minded situation. It’s like discovering a hidden world.”
